Witton Castle Country Foods, 2012
After taking a winter break when the Witton Castle Caravan site became very quiet, and after looking at our cash-flow for 2011, we have decided not to re-open the shop as Witton Castle Country Foods again this year.
It has been an interesting experience mixing day tripper and holiday maker requirements alongside wholesome local foods and crafts - and ultimately this confused identity didn't really work - but it was great fun trying!
So I have now emptied the premises, and left it to the Caravan Park owners to set up their own business.
As well as local producers we were also stocking products from 'ethical' suppliers, notably Traidcraft (fighting poverty through trade) and Suma (a workers co-op supplying vegetarian and natural foods) and these are products that aren't readily available in supermarkets and high street outlets. If you would be interested in buying these products we would be happy to organise a food co-op scheme based in Witton Park. Please contact me if you are interested.
